Nice saw : Skil 3385-02 120-Volt 9-Inch Band Saw
If you do any explore on band saws you will find that there is a big and I mean Big discrepancy between a band saw designed for cutting wood and one designed to cut both wood and metal. The discrepancy is in the blade speed. Any band saw designed to cut anyone harder than soft aluminum has much slower blade speeds available...in the range of 60 to 300 ft/min vs. A wood cutting band saw at 3000 to 3300 ft/min! It takes just seconds to destroy a blade at the high speed on steel..even the best bimetal blades. Some of the best saws use a changeable drive system or for a few buck less, a step pulley system to reduce speeds. It is unfortunate that the industry of the cheaper (single speed) band saws do not make it clear that these saws are designed for wood only. This saw is just fine as a wood saw in light use...it is not a production machine and should not be used as one. It will fail swiftly in heavy use. I got rid of mine even though I did not use it to cut hard metals. I now have a heavy duty band saw designed for both wood and metal and it was worth the money! You get what you pay for.
